This week, the BHSC Teacher Feature Friday spotlights Borden High School!
Kevin Jones, BHS, Health and Social Studies Teacher
Experience: 4th year at BHSC, 19 years overall
College/University: IU Southeast
Fun fact: Mr. Jones has 3 grandchildren and didn't start teaching until he was 33 years old.
When asked about his favorite part of his work, Mr. Jones replied, "My favorite part of teaching here is being able to watch students grow academically, socially, and emotionally from the 7th grade until they walk out the door as seniors. I also love the relationships that are built with the students here in the Borden community."
Mr. Jones was nominated by Madison's family, who wrote, "Mr. Jones made [history] exciting and interesting. He watched out for the students that needed a little extra attention and coached them even in the classroom on topics so they would stick with their education. He’s personal with the students and finds interest of theirs to carry conversations and to make students feel like they have an adult who truly cares in their lives. So many kids need that these days."
Mr. Jones also happens to be the sophomore class sponsor and boys' varsity basketball head coach, so his impact reaches far beyond his classroom walls, as well.

Fun fact: Mrs. Campbell is the mother of four awesome kiddos who are all students at Henryville
"I aim to create a classroom that feels warm, safe, structured, and welcoming—where students are encouraged to do their best and know that they’re capable of growth. I want each child to build confidence, feel a sense of belonging, and see the value they bring to our classroom and community. Above all, I believe every student should leave our school with strong reading skills because being able to read well opens the door to lifelong learning and success. I am so proud of the teachers I work with each day. We share our struggles and work to provide solutions to help our students."
Mrs. Campbell was nominated by Grady's family, who wrote, "My son’s confidence in reading has changed so much since he has started first grade. He has always loved listening to me read, but now he’s excited to read to me. He’s also more motivated than ever to practice his sight words each night! We just love Mrs. Campbell."

Miss Ashley Zink, BES, Fourth Grade Teacher
Experience: 5th year teaching (all at BES)
College/University: IUS for undergrad and currently taking graduate classes, as well
Fun fact: Miss Zink didn't decide she wanted to be a teacher until she was close to graduating high school
"The best part of my job is getting to build relationships with my students. My goal every year is to be a person that students can respect, learn from, and feel safe around. I am proud every time I get through to a student who may have some emotional walls up. I know these are the students who need me the most, so I have to work incredibly hard to be a good influence in their lives and build a meaningful relationship with them."
Miss Zink was nominated by parent Laura Dabney, who wrote, "Over the years, I’ve consistently seen Ms. Zink’s classes demonstrate so much heart. They cheer and support each other, check in on each other, take care of each other, are happy, kind, aware and inclusive. This isn’t a group within her classes, it’s her entire class. Over multiple years. So much love, heart, guidance, support and encouragement from Ms. Zink has created an amazing safe place of learning over the years. She is such an amazing and deserving 4th grade teacher."

Since earning our Early College endorsement last year, our HHS team was invited to the Early College Collective at the University of Indianapolis. During the event, our team was recognized and presented with a banner—photos coming soon!
As you may remember, CELL visited Henryville last year and was especially impressed with our Relearn & Reassessment policy. Our dual-credit partner, Ivy Tech, is fully supportive of this approach, and CELL invited Mrs. Tuesday Guernsey to share our story at the event.
In front of ~300 attendees, Mrs. Guernsey did a fantastic job representing Henryville—highlighting how the policy supports students as they take on college-level work. Like any new initiative, we’re still refining a few details, but overall it’s been a strong support system for our dual-credit students.

Our area Red Cross account manager, Scott Chandler, sent big praise after Friday’s on-campus blood drive:
“Our goal is to maintain an operating efficiency of 95%. That means if our target is 20 units, we aim to collect at least 19. Of course, we always strive for 100%. Your drive blew that out of the water, achieving 176% efficiency with 44 units collected against a goal of 25!”
Huge congratulations to our National Honor Society students and sponsor Jessica Gleason for coordinating the event, and thank you to every student, staff member, and community donor who rolled up a sleeve.
Because of your generosity, HHS not only provided life-saving blood for those in need, but we’re also now eligible for additional American Red Cross scholarships. 🩸🎓

Students in Mrs. Murrihy's Medical Detectives course tested how well different antibiotics stop bacterial growth by measuring the “zone of inhibition.” Students measured the clear rings—called the zone of inhibition—around each antibiotic disk to compare results and choose the best performer. Indiana Family Portal is Coming Soon 📊
Beginning this school year, families will be able to view their child’s state assessment results in Cambium’s Indiana Family Portal — including ILEARN (Checkpoints & Summative), IREAD-3, and I AM.
📅 When? Access opens after ILEARN Checkpoint 1 results begin posting in late September 2025.
🔐 How do we log in? Your school will share Family Portal access codes and step-by-step login instructions with you once results are available.
📄 What will I see? Clear, family-friendly score information for your student’s recent assessments—all in one place.
Look for a message in a few weeks from your school with your child’s access code and login directions. Sharing that code and logging in to the Family Portal is enough to view results (schools may still provide printed Individual Student Reports as needed).

Students at Henryville High School can now take a dual credit Anatomy class with Mrs. Guernsey — earning 6 college credit hours while still in high school. This course adds to the 25+ dual credit classes taught by eleven different teachers available across BHSC, including Anatomy, English, Econ, Finite Math, Calculus, Trigonometry, and more.
At BHSC, we’re committed to offering a variety of courses that open doors for every student’s future — whether their next step is college, career, trades, or service.
Henryville High School's hospitality pathway class, supervised by teacher Mr. Payne, made homemade salsa today with ingredients fresh from the garden. Principal Lewis gave his approval and even sent some salsa to central office for staff to try!
